HAVE YOU BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT?

A common auto-accident injury, whiplash, occurs when the head and neck are whipped from back to front.  If you are suffering weeks or months after an accident you should seek a professional evaluation.  When you do, Dr. Brenda Dukes is here to help.
Enduring a traumatic event such as an auto-accident requires survivors to manage both physical and emotional healing processes.

Dr. Dukes understands the challenges you face and believes that it is vital to your long-term health that you understand all of your treatment options.

Some individuals involved in an auto accident experience indicators of whiplash injuries right away, such as blurred vision, headaches, shoulder pain, dizziness, reduced range-of-motion and arm pain.  Other individuals may not experience significant injury symptoms right away. They may feel that they are simply “stiff” or “sore” after the accident. Serious injuries could be forming.

If left untreated, these issues can go on to cause other additional serious health problems. In fact, you may not think you have been injured after a car accident, and then start to experience discomfort or headaches several months later.

Chiropractic care has proven to be an effective non-invasive treatment option for some typical injuries encountered in auto accidents.  Treatments may consist of manipulative therapy, electric stimulation, hot/cold packs, cross-friction massage, stretching techniques and rehab exercises to strengthen injured or weak areas.

Whiplash is one of the most common neck injuries resulting from an auto-accident. Symptoms typically appear within a few days of the initial incident. Whiplash is caused by a forceful, rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck that most often occurs in a rear-end auto accident, but may also result from sports activity or other physical trauma. With proper diagnosis and treatment, most people recover from whiplash over a few months.

The initial treatment goal during the first few weeks following any sprain/strain injury is to reduce pain and inflammation. As treatment progresses, Dr. Dukes will work to increase your range of motion and strengthen the injured areas. With proper treatment, the affected area will heal properly making them less prone to re-injury.

Even minor car accidents can cause damage to the soft tissues and joints of your back and neck. If you've been in an auto accident, we urge you to have a thorough health evaluation even you don't feel any symptoms right now.
